PREVIEW: STERLING @ ST MARY'S

Today, the Sterling College Warriors play the University of Saint Mary Spires in Leavenworth KS at 4 pm. Sterling currently stands at 9 wins, 4 losses overall with 3 wins, 2 losses in the conference. USM has 2 wins, 10 losses, 1 tie overall, but has 2 wins, 3 losses in the conference.

Last year, Sterling defeated USM 4-2 in Sterling with goals by Justin Martens, Mladen Bjelica (2) and Ryan Covey. In 2006, Sterling won 1-0 on a Charlie Sewell goal in the second overtime and in 2005, Sterling was awarded a 1-0 win when USM forfeited after the game was originally called due to lightning, then rescheduled to a later date.

Sterling and USM have two common non-conference opponents. Sterling defeated York NE 2-1, USM lost 0-1; Sterling beat Central Christian KS 3-0, USM lost 0-3. USM's two conference victories have been shutouts against teams that have scored on Sterling. Although USM had a rough non-conference stretch of games, both victories have been achieved in the conference at home.

It looks like weather could be a factor, at least at the time I am writing this, according to the weather map on the right side.
