NATIONAL PLAYER OF THE WEEK ( ! ! )

Sterling College Warrior Ryan Covey was named the NAIA Men's Soccer National Offensive Player of the Week on October 14 !

GORDON AND COVEY NAMED MEN'S SOCCER PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

Oct. 14, 2008 - KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The NAIA Men's Soccer national weekly honors have been announced and Ross Gordon of King (Tenn.) was announced
as National Defensive Player of the Week while Ryan Covey of Sterling (Kan.) was
named National Offensive Player of the Week, for the week of Oct. 6-12.

Gordon, a 5-9 senior defender from Newcastle, England, led the team defensively in two wins against nationally ranked opponents last week. He helped the Tornado post a 2-1 win over No. 17 Lincoln Memorial (NCAA DII) at home and then knock off No. 14 Montreat (N.C.) 4-2 on the road.

Covey, a 6-2 forward from Edmond, Okla., scored six goals in two wins last week. In a home win against Southwestern (Kan.), the senior scored three goals and assisted on two more for eight points. He recorded his second hat trick on the week with three more goals in a road win against Bethel (Kan.). On the season Covey leads the team in goals and is tied for first in assists.

Covey, a 6-2 forward from Edmond, OK, scored six goals in two wins last week. In a home win against Southwestern College, the senior scored three goals and assisted on two more for eight points.

He recorded his second hat trick on the week with three more goals in a road win against Bethel College.

On the season, Covey leads the team in goals and is tied for first in assists.

"What a great week for Covey," said Sterling College Head Soccer Coach Dave
Underwood. "Ryan has been a big part of our offensive success this season, not only scoring but setting up goals as well. This is a great honor for him and our program."

The Warriors are currently 8-3 overall and 2-1 in the KCAC.

10/15/2008-Sterling College senior Ryan Covey has been named NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics), Men’s Soccer “Offensive Player of the Week” after his two stellar performances in Sterling’s victories last week.

Covey led Sterling to a 2-0 record last week, scoring six of his team’s ten goals last week and tallied 2 assists.

The forward from Edmond, Oklahoma, recorded a hat trick and two assists in
Sterling’s 6-2 victory over Southwestern College (Kan.) on Tuesday. Covey then again scored three goals in their 4-0 shutout over Bethel College on Saturday. He now has scored thriteen goals and has five assists so far this season.

“What a great week for Covey,” said Sterling College Head Soccer Coach Dave Underwood. “Ryan has been a big part of our offensive success this season, not only scoring but setting up goals as well. This is a great honor for him and our program.”

The Warriors current record is 8-3 overall and 2-1 in KCAC play.
